Dental bonding, also known as direct bonding or cosmetic bonding, is a treatment we offer that can correct a wide variety of aesthetic issues that may lie within your smile. We use a tooth-colored substance called composite resin that can be sculpted to build your tooth up to the ideal size, shape, and proportion. Because this material can be custom shaded to blend in with the enamel you already have, your results will look completely realistic. Using this treatment, your cosmetic dentist can correct a multitude of imperfections, such as minor chips, cracks, stubborn stains, and small gaps between teeth.
One of the primary advantages of dental bonding is that, unless a large number of your teeth need to be addressed, it can usually be completed in just one visit to our Rexburg office. Before we begin the procedure, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable. We start by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area. Then, a small abrasion is created on the affected tooth to help the composite resin adhere to it more effectively. Once the tooth is adequately prepped, the resin is applied in layers and sculpted along the way until the tooth is built up to perfection. The resin is then hardened into place with an ultraviolet curing light. Lastly, our dentists will polish the tooth, ensuring the resin reflects light just like your natural enamel does. In most cases, this whole process takes 90 minutes or less!
